Forums Almost Completed..

Hey all. Just checking in with my update for the day. I'm doing some last minute touches on the new Project Legilimensia Forums. I thought I'd take the two seconds to highlight a particular question ask of me:

Will you be adding other languages, say, parseltongue?

Interestingly enough, I just put the final touches on the parseltongue language last week. ;) Might be a few other languages for you guys to find too...

Schweet.

Stepshep - 02 Nov 2004 06:00 pm

How will we know if we can speak parseltongue? Is that something we will get to choose? Sounds Cool!
smile

Achoo! - 02 Nov 2004 06:33 pm

veedubgti - 02 Nov 2004 06:39 pm

That sounds awesome! I cant wait to play it. smile

ebo - 02 Nov 2004 06:51 pm

CEH - 02 Nov 2004 07:12 pm

Awesome! *wonders what other languages there could be* Troll? Goblin? Mermish (?)?

Stepshep - 02 Nov 2004 07:26 pm

~Waits for answer to question refreshing page every 2 seconds~ wassat wink

Artemis - 02 Nov 2004 07:37 pm

You'll be able to tell in the game... I promise.

Maeve K. - 02 Nov 2004 07:50 pm

I'm such an update junkie. Thanks for the fix.

Arie - 02 Nov 2004 07:55 pm

That's so kewl, about the different languages thing. I can just see all the LOTR fans walking around, protesting that there's nowhere they can speak Elvish... smile

CEH - 02 Nov 2004 08:36 pm

I can see that, too. I have an LotR-obsessed friend who goes around speaking Elvish just to annoy me.

CEH - 02 Nov 2004 09:19 pm

Oh God not another one. Look, "joey" (whom I'm nicknaming "Troll"), if you're going to flame like the other guy did, at least try to come up with original insults. *calls Aniline over to get rid of Troll*

Artemis - 02 Nov 2004 09:20 pm

I got it. *bam*

CEH - 02 Nov 2004 09:22 pm

Thank you.

Goatman - 02 Nov 2004 09:47 pm

I like the language thing, this thing sounds like it's coming together. What other kind of non-magic abilities will there be?

Aniline - 02 Nov 2004 10:23 pm

Awww, I missed getting the Troll. sad

veedubgti - 02 Nov 2004 10:35 pm

Thanx Artemis. I almost got angry. laughing

veedubgti - 02 Nov 2004 10:37 pm

Aniline, why has my browser been saying that i am banned from this site? I didn't do anything. sad

veedubgti - 02 Nov 2004 10:40 pm

I had to access through a proxy to even ask you. sad

Aniline - 02 Nov 2004 11:00 pm

I had to ban every IP that had posted innappropriate and offensive comments. There were actually quite a few offensive comments made by the IP that you used.

CEH - 02 Nov 2004 11:41 pm

So...veedubgti was one of the last Trolls?

Rowen - 03 Nov 2004 01:23 am

Wow! Parseltongue is going to rock my socks! I'm so excited for the forums. So, we're thinkin' like 6 mos to the release date? (Gotta keep hammering that point home. :D) BTW, GO Bush!

CEH - 03 Nov 2004 01:48 am

angry I don't think politics should be discussed/mentioned here.

Rowen - 03 Nov 2004 09:46 am

Sorry CEH, I didn't mean anything by it, and I certainly don't intend to get in a huge political debate over it. Sorry. smile

veedubgti - 03 Nov 2004 10:58 am

Sore loosers. Jeeez smile

Stepshep - 03 Nov 2004 01:47 pm

If we can speak another language will we be able to understand the other people that speak that same language like when we see it, it will have a translated version for us but not someone who can't speak parseltongue as an example? wassat

Aniline - 03 Nov 2004 02:36 pm

I'm not sure how languages will be set up on this MUD, but usually on other MUDs, you need to learn the language to understand it. So only those that speak parseltongue will be able to understand someone that is speaking in parseltongue, just like in real life.

CEH - 03 Nov 2004 03:34 pm

Okay...

Arie - 03 Nov 2004 04:48 pm

How would you go about learning a new language on this? (I've never done a MUD before, so... I'm just wondering.) It seems kinda complicated, to me...

Aniline - 03 Nov 2004 04:57 pm

Like I said, I'm not sure how languages are set up in this MUD, but you would probably learn it just like you learn other skills and spells, from an NPC or player.

Melissa - 03 Nov 2004 04:58 pm

EEEEEEEE! Niftiness! I've been wanting to be able to speak Parseltongue forever!

Naoko chan - 03 Nov 2004 05:31 pm

Parseltounge! YAY!! That's sooooawesome.... wink tongue laughing smile

Goatman - 03 Nov 2004 09:38 pm

This has nothing to do with parseltongue, but I'll say it anyway. In the game, will your character need to have his wand to do magic, so if you disarmed somebody they could only do stuff the muggle way.

veedubgti - 03 Nov 2004 11:55 pm

In not sure if you can take away another players wand. You can, however fight someone the "Muggle Way". And for more info on that check out the FAQ section of this Web site.

Artemis - 04 Nov 2004 07:45 am

Only people who know parseltongue can read what one is saying in parseltongue. So theoretically, you could carry on conversations in it, without any normal human being able to tell what you're saying...

As for wands... I'll just point out that some very powerful wizards are quite capable of casting spells without their wands. :P

Jase - 04 Nov 2004 07:49 am

Ok...so I'm a bit confused...Is this MUD just a text adventure kind of thing, or are there actual graphics? wassat

Aniline - 04 Nov 2004 09:08 am

As has been said many times in the comments on this site as well as in the FAQ, a MUD is a text-based online RPG.

CasiquireZiphonium - 04 Nov 2004 09:37 am

That sounds AWESOME, I can't wait! And for Jase...do you know what a mud IS? They're all text.

Stepshep - 04 Nov 2004 05:57 pm

So Artemis will the person that can speak that language get a translated version or will be have to learn what different words mean? wassat
Thanx

veedubgti - 04 Nov 2004 10:01 pm

Interisting. It would be cool to get converted text that others couldn't understand. wink

Aniline - 04 Nov 2004 10:32 pm

Normally languages work this way in a MUD:

This is what you would see if you could speak parseltongue.

You say: Hello everyone!

This is what someone would see if they can't speak parceltongue. (Except it'll probably look different in the MUD.)

Aniline says: Ssss sssss!

Someone who can speak parceltongue would see this.

Aniline says: Hello everyone!

CEH - 05 Nov 2004 01:41 am

smile Okay.

Stepshep - 05 Nov 2004 02:34 pm

Cool Thanx
smile

veedubgti - 05 Nov 2004 05:02 pm

That takes the work out of having to memorize works. Cool. smile

Onora - 06 Nov 2004 02:40 am

This has to be the most complicated and awesome sounding game I've ever heard of. Congrats to the mugglenet MUD team for thinking of it. Can't wait to speak Parseltongue

Rowen - 06 Nov 2004 11:02 am

I resent that the fanfiction.mugglenet.com site is up before the MUD. This should be top priority! (J/K)

Aniline - 06 Nov 2004 11:08 am

A MUD takes a lot more work and a fan fic site. tongue

t2nazx2 - 06 Nov 2004 05:30 pm

I know people are thankful for this, but might not always express it. So to Artemis and all the team working on this MUD, thanks for all your hard work you are putting into it for our enjoyment. Sounds great. I've never done a MUD before, but can't wait to give it a try. Mugglenet.com truly is a fantastic website and I doubt words can describe what you all have done to bring the world of Harry Potter to everyone. So I'll just say keep up the great work and we all appreciate anything and everything you do.

Aniline - 06 Nov 2004 11:55 pm

Aw, it's great that you guys are so excited about it and all. smile It's a lot of hard work, but it's slowly comming together.

Heh, there have been days, like today, where I just want to kick everything in the MUD. I got very frustrated working on a new shop. Now that it's all worked out, I feel a lot better. It was nice to come here and see such a great compliment. crying I helped to make my day. laughing

*huggles everyone*

Lisa - 07 Nov 2004 10:07 am

Wow it's so cool that we get to learn different languages! The MUD is goning to be awesome! But will anyone who wants to learn a language be able to? For example, could anyone learn parseltongue? Or would you have to born with that trait?
