Full Name: Devlin Eirmseach
Gender: Male
Birthplace: Jedburgh, Roxburghshire, Scottish Borders.
Height: Quite Short
Frame: Slim
Hair Colour: Light Brown, Mid-Length, Messy
Eye Colour: Electric Blue
Skin Tone: Fair

Short Description: A little brown-haired lad.
Long Description: A rough-looking little lad with messy brown hair stands here.
Key Words: little, brown-haired, brown, lad, boy, messy, rough, rough-looking, Devlin, Eirmseach.

Physical Description:
Messy, rather untameable light brown hair surrounds the face of this cheeky looking lad. His electric blue eyes stand out along with his sharp chin and somewhat embarrassingly large nose, which match his rather lengthy feet. He has fair skin, covered in countless freckles. He is quite short and built slim, but his eyes give away an energy inside him that would need an adult troll’s body to capacitate comfortably. When he smiles, he gives off a grin that shouldn’t really be allowed out without being arrested for indecent exposure. You can’t help but notice he looks vaguely Scottish, but can’t put a finger on why.

History:
Devlin and his family originate from the border areas between England and Scotland – 10 miles north of the actual border. They live in the country side about a mile west of Jedbrugh itself. His happiest childhood memories generally involve throwing snowballs over Hadrian’s Wall at confused English lads, much to his personal delight. Not that he is particularly racist, but he likes a bit of banter, to the point were it can be bit annoying.

He has no known magical ancestors, but his parents love and are caring of their only child, although a bit surprised (as was Devlin) when he made his 7th Birthday Cake (8th December, by the way) explode out of sheer over-excitement. The family are proud of their Border roots, although no one ever had time to research the tree, as it was his Dad’s job to cut them down. His great uncle may have been Merlin as far as they know.

He had defiantly inherited his wit and comedic timing from Dad, which landed him in trouble with the older boys nearby. This, combined with his bravery (verging on hot-headedness) started many fights with aforementioned bigger people, in the pleural. This often led to fights, which usually led to Devlin handing out a couple of black eyes and then running like hell. Often the older boys fell into (and got stuck in) convenient swampy grounds, which they swore weren’t there five minutes ago. A thirst for adventure inspired many a repeat performance. Quick thinking was a favourable trait that quickly developed, due to this mischievous childhood – excuses and escapes come naturally to him.

Friends were thin on the ground in the village (if you can call it that) where he grew up, so when he received an odd looking envelope one fateful morning (an event of utmost excitement, for him and his parents, until aforesaid excitement somehow turned Mum’s hair bright pink for a week or two) he revered the chance of friends almost as much as the sense of adventure, and rather more interesting things to exercise his brain with than he would find in his Muggle surroundings.

Family Crest: Shield-Based, metallic silver background with an ice-topped metallic gold Mountain the main feature of the foreground. A grey, grinning mountain goat stands atop the mountain, looking somewhat pleased with himself. Underneath, the Latin family motto, in deep-black gothic print:

SIMPER UBI SUB UBI

Personality Notes:
Devlin is, deep-down, brave and loyal, almost chivalrous. The effect is somewhat ruined by his quick wit and more-often-than-not inappropriate comments, delivered with excellent comedic timing. What he wants, more than anything is friends, who, as a very loyal person, he would be very attached and protective of, if maybe sometimes slightly annoying. He is quick-thinking and quick-witted, and will always strive to get the job if it is important – however “Important” is not a word he normally associates with words like “Homework” and “Cleaning” and rather disappointingly “Tact”.

Lingo Notes:
Devlin: Gaeilic Name meaning "Misfortune, Fierce Courage".
Eirmseach: Scottish Gaelic word meaning "Witty".
Family's Latin Motto Translates as: Always Wear Underwear. Very Happy

Feedback please, critisism welcome, I'm new to this.

Sounds good. I only have one criticism. Try to avoid telling other people how they feel about you in your physical description. It's much more fulfilling to let other people decide how they see you.

Other then that, a solid character sheet, especially for someone who's new at this Smile.

As a former Latin scholar, I just need to point out that the phrase you're looking for is actually:

Semper ubi sub ubi.
(Always where under where?)

Or to actually translate it properly:

Semper gesta interulam.
(Always wear undergarments (underwear))

Yeah, I know I'm a latin dork Razz.

Thanks for the feedback.

Will wait for more opinion before editing cause I want to do it in one go, as far as possible.

Nic, are you refering to the bit about look vaguely Scottish - couldn't work out whether you were on about that or the bit a about grinning... which I'm reluctant to remove because it's one of my better pieces of writing! Very Happy

Torden, I can assure you I am a Latin Expert... Wink

No really I got it off some random website, and will be glad to correct it.

Thanks,
James.

Actually, it was both lines that were bugging me. I won't deny that it's good writing, but it bugs me that you're telling me what my character thinks about you. If there were a way to rephrase it so that it doesn't do that, I would be fine with it.
