I was just wondering if this forum is also for any designs we have for the main page of the site. If so I made another site skin.

Oh, my goodness. This is FANTASTIC!!!! Yes, please keep making stuff for us and yes, yes. We'll use if for our site. It's excellent. Let me make a new area for this that I'll call web designs. And I'll make sure our web designers check this out. Sorry for the late response. This one sort of slipped past our radar!

That is really cool. I'll get it uploaded once we're done with the new forum software.

Any thought on going to SMF instead of PHPBB? It's much more secure and uses about half the processes of phpbb

Hi, Rhiannon. Do you have any examples of your work that we could see? Feel free to message me privately if you don't want to post URLs here publicly.

I've been thinking that our Forum icons should be more Potter-esque. Perhaps the sign of the deathly hallows, or even a dark mark, in place of the current... thing.

sonny, hate to disappoint you, but that's not graphic design, that's called photo manipulation. some would even go as far as calling it "owning a copy of photoshop", but i prefer the first one, sounds more cool.

so, be very careful when using that expression next time, mmmkay? you don't want to sound...funny, do you? ;)

I realize you have a background in design Greg, but doesn't Graphic Design literally mean "Designing Graphics"? Which could theoretically involve photo-manipulation. That's the way I see it at least.

Yes, graphic design could be called any design of graphics, but to someone who is educated in the field, to call simple photomanipulation a design is quite insulting.

i didn't intend to insult, but simply to warn.

for something to be an artwork and not scribbling, and for something to be a design and not just using a software, there has to be certain art and design principles and elements. when talking about graphic design, you're sending a message using images and typography. in 98% of the cases, graphic design is done for marketing purposes - logos, adds, visual identities of a firm or a product and so on. when you're not giving a visual identity to something, then it's not design anymore. and when there is no principles and elements which define quality of the visual material, then you simply cannot call it a design or art. period.

and yes, like Gutslicer, i find that really insulting as well. it's like calling your family photo art photography and calling yourself a professional photographer just because you own a camera. like filming your football match with your friends and claiming that you did something that fits into the same category as the works of Fritz Lang or Matthew Barney for example.it just doesn't work that way.

I agree with Greg House. When it comes to graphic designing and calling yourself one you have to be able to create your own designs from nothing. Not going on the Internet and pulling something off it, editing it a bit, and claiming it to be your own. Like Greg said that is just simple photo manipulation. Like what I did in my first post is just simple photo manipulation.
