Please note: This is a volunteer MUD, thus all employment postings are not paid positions. All of the jobs listed below do require quite a chunk of free time, so please DO NOT apply unless you have plenty of time to commit. Our MUD is also based on what we consider canon, JKR’s books. Though the Warner Brothers movies are inspiring, we always take our cues and information from the books. Along with your application, we'll need the following information: if you are member of this forum tell us your name and your age. If you have problems connecting to the email address or a PM to the head of that department isn't answered, feel free to PM Jack here on the forum. Thank you. :)
Builders: Builders bring the world of the MUD into existence by writing the places and creating the objects that are needed. Advanced writing skills are required. Applicants must also be friendly (we like to have a good time, after all), willing to devote reasonable amounts of time to the project, and ready to work with deadlines. Please do not attach your submissions or other writing examples, but rather paste them inside the email.
Think of 3 places that would occur in Harry's world and have yet to be described, then write these 3 rooms. For example, though we’ve not seen Vernon and Petunia Dursley’s bedroom, we know it exists. This is an example of a room that would exist in Harry Potter’s world, but has not been described by JKR. Again, do not write a room already depicted; instead, create your own. Write these ‘rooms/areas’ in 8-12 sentences max, in the 3rd person, and with as much detail as possible. Do not write about living creatures (e.g., humans or animals) in your work; explain the room itself. If you wish to describe the objects in your rooms in greater detail (as there’s an 8-12 sentence limitation), type: Extended Description, then elaborate about these specific items.
Please send your application to mugglenetmud@gmail.com or PM Nint here on the forum. Thanks!
Quest & Design: No game is complete without a working set of quests; designers also create the different types of magic in Harry Potter’s worlds, including, but not restricted to, spells and potions. Individuals applying for this position should be ready to work with the builders and to present a new and unique quest or design several items on an assigned project each week.
Please submit 2 different example quests or designs you would want implemented on the MUD, fleshed out with detail, presented with all of the tasks necessary to complete the quest, the premise and background, and the reward for the quest. Quest/Designers will also be required to design various items, such as example book excerpts for the Hogwarts Library, etc.
Please send your application to mugglenetmud@gmail.com or PM HPwriterKyle here on the forum. Thanks!
Coders: We require experience in C programming on UNIX/Linux. Experience in UNIX/Linux network programming, MUD programming in the areas of large systems, AI, informational, user interface and/or general programming is a definite plus. Support tools in use are git, cogito and cvs. It is strongly suggested that the programmer be able to provide their own environment and be able to install tools for MUD development. A resume with your coding experience, if applicable, is always appreciated. Please do not attach resumes, but rather paste them inside the e-mail if possible. We will not open attachments.
Please send your application to mugglenetmud@gmail.com or PM Nic here on the forum. Thanks!
Writing Services Team: In addition to producing a top-notch gaming experience, we're also hoping to flesh out some of the literary work mentioned throughout the series. We're looking for writers to help us write the historical and informational books and periodicals that will help bring the adventure to life. No coding experience is necessary, just a clear understanding of the English language, and a strong desire to write a lot about the Wizarding World. Please include a brief writing sample (two or three paragraphs), a description of your writing experience/education (if any), and what type of books or periodicals you'd like to write for.
Please send your application to mugglenetmud@gmail.com or PM continuumcomplex here on the forum. Thanks! _________________ To be nobody but yourself in a world that is doing its best night & day to make you everybody else means to fight the hardest battle any human being can fight and never stop fighting.
